Andaz Seoul Gangnam
We added this hotel to our list the moment we saw what it had done...
AC Hotel Seoul Gangnam arrived in Yeoksam-dong in 2022 as Marriott's first AC Hotels property in South Korea, dropped into a Gangnam streetscape dense with glass office towers and little personality. The 274-room tower answers with hardwood floors underfoot, open closet systems instead of bulky wardrobes, and rooms the brand insists stay free of clutter, a quiet rebuttal to the maximalist hospitality that dominates the neighbourhood. From the AC Lounge's espresso hiss in the morning to the rooftop's skyline glow at night, the hotel reads less like a business stopover and more like a building with its own social life.
It works because AC Hotel Seoul Gangnam resists the two usual traps of a business-district hotel: sterile uniformity and over-decoration. The four Premier Pool Rooms, each with a private plunge pool and sunbed terrace, turn a handful of upper floors into something closer to a boutique resort, a genuine rarity in a 274-key tower. Kloud, the rooftop bar, is built around floor-to-ceiling glass and a wraparound terrace rather than a single photogenic corner, so the view holds up for a sunset drink or a late one alike. A lobby that runs on Nespresso, Bluetooth speakers and air purifiers signals a hotel designed around how guests use a room, not how it photographs.
Yeoksam-dong puts the hotel inside Gangnam's working core, a short walk from the subway interchange and the district's office towers. Bongeunsa Temple, a working Buddhist temple with Joseon-era roots, sits close enough for an early walk before meetings start, a genuine contrast to the glass towers surrounding it. COEX Mall and the Gangnam shopping and dining strip are a short taxi away, and Incheon International Airport is roughly an hour by car. By evening, the Chung-dam district's upscale boutiques and restaurants give the area a different register entirely, switching from spreadsheets to tasting menus within a few blocks.

Standard rooms skip the heavy drapery and dark wood of a typical Gangnam business hotel for hardwood floors, open closet systems and a palette that stays out of its own way, the brand's free-of-clutter line is, for once, accurate. The four Premier Pool Rooms and the single Premier Pool Suite go further: a private plunge pool, a terrace with sunbeds, Korres toiletries and a Nespresso machine that turns a quick coffee into a ritual. Bluetooth speakers and an air purifier in every room round out a stay that reads as considered rather than inventoried, the kind of detail business travellers notice on their third night more than their first.
Kloud sits at the top of the tower with floor-to-ceiling glass on every side and a genuine outdoor terrace, not the single photogenic corner that passes for a rooftop bar in half of Seoul's new openings. By day it catches the Gangnam skyline stretching toward Namsan; by night the glass turns the room into a lantern over the district. It is built for a slow drink after a long meeting as much as for a proper night out, and the terrace holds enough space that it never feels like overflow seating from the lobby bar below.
Families travel well here thanks to the Kids Lounge, an indoor playground run with the Kids Skolle early-childhood programme, a rarer amenity in a business-district hotel than the Gangnam address might suggest. Meeting planners get flexible event space with a large LED media wall and streaming capability, plus a rooftop terrace that doubles for small receptions. The trade-off for the central position is distance from the airport: Incheon International is close to an hour by car, so travellers connecting straight off a flight should budget accordingly rather than treat the hotel as an airport stopover.
