The Westin Josun Seoul Hotel
We picked this hotel for a story no other address in Seoul can tell: opened...
Myeong-dong does not do quiet. Neon cosmetics shops glow until midnight, street stalls spill into the road, and the crowds move at the pace of the shopping. Then a revolving door swings shut behind you at L'Escape, a Luxury Collection Hotel, and the noise disappears into gilt mirrors, antique French furniture and a ceiling of hand-tied silk roses. French designer Jacques Garcia, decorated Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 2018, built this hotel in 2018 as a full Belle Époque fantasy, and little has been diluted since the Luxury Collection took it over. It is, by some distance, the most theatrical check-in in central Seoul.
We picked L'Escape over Myeong-dong's dozen interchangeable business hotels for one reason: it refuses to look like anywhere else in the neighbourhood. The design commitment runs all the way through, down to the bespoke La Rose Poésie scent in the lobby and the antique-style furniture even in the smaller Deluxe rooms. It helps that the kitchen matches the ambition: L'Amant Secret has held its Michelin star for five straight years, so the hotel's drama is backed by real culinary weight rather than decor alone.
L'Escape sits two minutes' walk from Myeongdong Cathedral and directly inside the pedestrian shopping streets that give the district its name, with Euljiro3(sam)-ga station close enough to reach on foot. Namsan and the cable car up to N Seoul Tower are a short taxi ride away, and the hanok lanes of Bukchon are roughly fifteen minutes by car. Both Incheon and Gimpo airports run limousine buses from stops near the hotel, which matters more in Seoul traffic than the map distance suggests.

The 204 rooms split into four tiers, and each one commits fully to its own small drama. The Deluxe category holds the Classic Room alongside two of the hotel's signature oddities: the Amour Room, where the bathtub sits behind a lace-patterned partition in full view of the bed, and the Secret Room, crowned with a floral canopy headboard. One step up, the Atelier Junior Suite wraps its walls in fine embroidery and mirrored doors, while the Corner Junior Suite trades ornament for floor-to-ceiling city views. At the top, the Royal Suite comes with its own wine cellar and a mirrored dressing room, and the L'Escape Suite was styled room by room by Jacques Garcia himself.
The hotel's restaurants are not a lobby afterthought. L'Amant Secret, open since 2018 and awarded a Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Seoul 2021, has kept that star for five consecutive years under chef Jongwon Son, who trained at San Francisco's Benu, Coi and Quince before taking the kitchen. Palais de Chine reimagines 1930s Shanghai with Cantonese cooking and has been recognized by the Michelin Guide Seoul & Busan every year from 2020 to 2025. Upstairs, Marque d'Amour, ranked among the World's 50 Best Bars, pours cocktails with a skyline view, while the Tea Salon keeps to a quieter register of Parisian pastry and fine tea.
Guests in the higher categories get access to La Maison Boutique, a private lounge serving breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails away from the main restaurants. The Swiss Perfection spa runs just two treatment rooms, which keeps it intimate rather than resort-sized, and the fitness center stays open around the clock for jet-lagged schedules. For a quieter half hour, the Parisian-inspired library is worth seeking out, and guests interested in the design itself can join a guided interior tour tracing Jacques Garcia's Belle Époque references through the hotel.
